Simplified Weather Guidelines for Learn-To-Scull (LTS)
Key weather safety points for LTS participants. Always listen to your coach; their decision is final.
Coach's Authority is Final
Always defer to your coach's judgment regarding weather conditions. They have the experience to assess the situation and make the safest decision for the group. If a coach cancels or postpones a session due to weather, it is for your safety.
Critical "No-Go" Conditions
These conditions generally mean rowing is not safe for LTS participants:
Lightning & Thunder
- Stop rowing immediately.
- Seek shelter away from water & tall objects.
- Wait 30+ mins after last sign.
Coach makes the final call.
Strong Winds
- Difficult to control boat.
- Whitecaps on river.
- Hard to steer.
Coach will assess conditions.
Thick Fog
- Visibility significantly reduced.
- Cannot see opposite bank.
Rowing not permitted.
Air Quality (AQI)

No rowing if AQI ≥150.
Other Important Considerations

Air Quality (AQI)
Poor air quality can pose health risks, especially for those with sensitivities. LTS sessions may be cancelled or modified based on AQI levels from AirNow.gov.
